That's why I troll with no rods shorter than 16' in the front; sometimes have 18 footers straight out the side. The clearer the water and the shallower the fish the more they will be "spooked" by the shadow of the boat. It also gets the jigs away from the noise of the trolling motor.

Up here most lakes are quite clear w/ visibility down to 6' or better. I've found that on clear, sunny days as the sun gets higher I have to change over from pushing jigs off the front to long lining, casting, or using planer boards to get away from the boat.
