What do y'all prefer to sink for crappie structure, It has been my experience that I have better luck attracting crappie with natural cover, brush piles, I really like cedar and hard wood, but don't like Christmas trees, the limbs are to tight and crappie can't get in them, only around them.

What they said for sure! I love hardwood pallets and stakebeds. Persimmon is #1 in my book and then other hardwoods. i don't like cover so dense you can't put an 8'' block through the spaces. Fish need room to move about and fishermen need to be able to fish without staying hung.

Definately need space inbetween limbs, stakes, or what ever you use. During the big drawdown this year at Nimrod I built several dense stakebeds and NIMROD told me that I really needed more space between my stakes and why. So I went out and just took out everyother stake and moved 'em to the outside and made the bed twice as big in the process.

I have never tried it but have been told that alfalfa hay is hard to beat. The fish make holes in it for cover. The hay is full of tiny creatures that attract the baitfish.

I've heard that too, but never tried it. Seems like it would be a temporary thing though.
