    Default What happened?

Took a buddy jiggin today and we caught a good number of Crappie. The thing was the bigger fish were non existant? We kept 40 but most were just barely 10'' fish with a few 11 to 12'' mixed in. Nimrod was covered up with boats and so was the cleaning station. Lots of folks fillet'n Bream and some Crappie that could'nt been 6'' long!

I know some folks dont get to fish alot and will keep some short fish, and I probably dont blame 'em (much) but it seems like a waste cleaning fish that small as they will grow to 10"-11" fish pretty fast IMO. But by removing some of those smaller fish it allows more food for the bigger fish to feed on so maybe it doesnt really hurt anything either.

Glad you got your buddy on some fish. Maybe the water will begin cooling before long and the bigger fish will show up again. Congrats on your catch.

Just keep moving youll find em agian. Try some spots you have not fished in awhile or look for new cover in areas of the lake you have never fished if thats possible for you Nimrod. 40 keeprs is still a good day tho.

I'll take a coolerful of 10's any day. For frying, I'd rather have those than a big one.

Exactly, plan on taking them to a stump row or two that been lay'n out. Guess after about a month my favorite holes are thinned out. Time for a rest anyway, hate to see my friends leave. But I could use the rest and get my yard mowed!

The bigger ones are probably suspended and scattered out in the open water of the lake in this hot weather. Make a scouting run with your ff and see it you can find them.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

most of the times a cold front will shut down the bite of bigger fish . the 2nd and 3rd days behind a front is the worst . when the wind make its cycle from the north- northeast -east and back to so.east to south the bite will pick back up.

We caught some bigger fish yesterday, but only kept 27. Just we hunting some of my older spots. The weather cools off next month may fire up the bigger Crappie.
