Hard to tell from that picture, but my first impression was that didn't look like a 5 pounder to me! If so, I need to borrow those scales! If it really is, congratulations to the young man. However, he'll spend the rest of his life and never top that!!
My wife keeps saying I never listen to her....... or something like that!
Holy smokes arky dats a biggn. sure glad a kid caught it.
An article I read said the fish was 18 inches long with 14 inch girth. No way that fish weighed 5 pounds. I mounted a 4 pound black crappie a few years ago that was 20.75 inches long and 14 inches girth.
No doubt it is a trophy fish, too bad it will doubtfully hold up as a record.

There could be many reasons that the yougster was photoed with an alternate fish. Maybe the record lost it's color in the freezer. We will see if it shows up on the agfc record boards. Anyway, congratz to the young man!
Are there any actually pictures of the 5 pound Crappie? Or was there actually never a 5 pound Crappie caught by this person?
I would not be shocked to see a 5 pound Crappie being caught in Arkansas, Arkansas has some great fishing. But like others have said, the Crappie in these pictures is not anywhere close to 5 pounds. IMO

The black crappie was 18 inches long and had a 13-inch girth.
18 length X 13 girth = 2.535 pounds

wow!! what a bunch of doubting going on!
I have to assume that the kid caught a 5 lb fish. He was weighed on certified scale by the AGFC.
Lets hear it for the kid and his record fish!
