    Default Sickle Hooks???

Can someone explain to me what the deal about sickle hooks is??? I have never used one in my life and I don't know the reason why to use a sickle hook instead of just a regular ol' round hook like i have my whole life... Can someone please enlighten me??

I dont know but Meatgetter uses them on his jigs and they hook everything. I cant even tie one on without it hooking my shirt, pants or finger. They seem to be sharper.

They are the greatest things ever invented. You will not miss as many fish. It is much easier to set the hook. I started using them about two years ago and i refuse to use a regular round hook for crappie or bream fishing.

I use sickle hooks 95% of the time when using jigs. We miss and/or lose far fewer fish with the sickle hooks. Most of the time the fish is hooked in the roof of the mouth.
I order mine from TCI Fishing Lures which is a store on Ebay. Mr. Crenshaw hand makes any size or shape jighead you can imagine and sells them far cheaper than I can do it myself. I usually order the Roundhead jigs with both #2 and #4 Matzuo bronze sickle hooks. I get them in 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, and 1/32 oz sizes and usually order 100 of each one. With those hook sizes and head weights you are ready for longlining or spider rigging any depth or situation that comes up. I usually fish with unpainted lead but sometimes use powder paint if I need a certain color. Be very careful with these hooks as they are needle sharp!!

Mr. Crenshaw is a good guy, and CHEAP, did I mention the prices are low also?

Mooney, I will give you some of the red sickle hook jigs next time I see you, if you remember to remind me. I have a couple hundred in my jig box right now. I love them, but use them about 1/2 the time

I use sickles all the time. I use mostly 1/16 jig with #4 sickle but just ordered some 3/16oz with #2 & # 1 sickles for some larger jigs that CP got me started on. just be aware that when they hang up, they don't straighten out as easy. Thats why I use power pro or P-line. Also after you do straighten them out a couple times they are prone to break in that sharp bend. All in all I really like them much better.
    It ain't nuttin but luck.

I'll have to order some of those jigs when I get a little lower on supply.
