If a round hook gets on my boat anymore it is by accident. Sickles are a sharp as all get out and they just dont let go.

X2 use straight shank for minnows and started using them in my jig mold. Would not go back for the same reasons.

Yes, but the only place I have been able to find them is Cabelas. They are made by Matzo.

How do sickle hook sizes compare to regular hook sizes? If you use a #2/0 regular hook, what size sickle hook would you use, etc.?

If I remeber correctly, you use 1 size smaller than normal.

Had an interesting conversation with Arkansasbowhunter the other day and we both decided the biggest disadvantage with the sickles is the very small barb. This can sometimes be a problem if the fish isn't hooked into something solid like the roof of the mouth. Does anyone out there ever take a pair of pliers and offset the hook from the shank? I also like the Gamakatsu round jighead but they are so expensive at a buck apiece that I am usually out of them. You certainly don't have to worry about a tube jig sliding off one of those and those hooks will stay put!

I had never lost as many fish as I have lost since trying the sickle hooks out. They have a very sharp point but the barb being small I think is such a disadvantage. I think that I am going back to the regular jig head and off set the point to the left or right. I never had many losses from using that method.

I've had some #2s backordered from Cabelas for months. They are hard to come by in a minnow hook.

Just went back and checked. Backordered from March.
