At times when fish are up shallow in clear water you may need to use a casting rod. One year fish has suspended above the brushpiles and water was unusually clear. Our jiggin was not working. I had to fish a casting rod with a cork fishing 3 to 4' deep over brushpiles in 10 to 12' of water. Those things would strike and you could sometimes see the white flash of their sides when you set the hook setting 40 or 50 ' away. But ever pull up to the brush and you'd never get a nibble.
