I like running with tail up,the only thing I have againest tail up is sometimes the tail will hang on the hook point or in the bend of the hook.If I have to throw into heavy cover I go with a slider and slider hook.I do not like weed guards,I know they are great for some people but I think they inter fear with my way of fishing.

I just don't like foul-ups or missing fish. TAIL DOWN, THERES THE LIFT. Or as some might say opposite of the hook bite. When your close to bottom, down will produce those attracting little contrails. Was this a serious ?haha
