I agree--I do not like for them to die---I keep mine alive until I clean them. The yo-yo's come with a 6 ft. line I think--some guys just hang them to high, not thinking-- all you need to do is attach a longer line to the top
The guy that set them out incorrect and pulled them out of the water--he angered many crappie fisherman and some one reported him--plus he got right in the middle of the fisherman when he placed them out and the other guys had to watch the crappie die, all of the time hollering for him to remove the fish. His line was short and prevented them from keeping their heads in the water.
If you permanently tie them out---I have had big cats or gar just tear them all to pieces--take all of the line and break the spring.
The floaties I love the square one--reminds me of a oil rig platform.
