You betcha can, they put off a odor that is real fishy smelling. it just hangs in the air around bream beds, when you smell that smell there is no mistaking it. And usually the fish it the bed will bite anything you throw in there.
My nose isn't that good, but my wife can smell bream beds really well. She can track them like a dog tracks deer. I've always wondered if you could train a dog to locate bream beds; if they can smell cadavers, surely they could do that. If my lab could learn to do it, at least I wouldn't have to bait her hook:D.
