    Default Gar caviar

I know when some of you are cleaning your gar that you have brought home after a day of fishing that you look at the eggs and think how tasty they might be, but I wouldn't recommend eating them.

Am I wrong for getting a chuckle out of that? I hate it that they got sick and I hope they're all ok. Good post ..

I saw that on the news....I wouldn't have guessed they were toxic.....but I wouldn't have cleaned a gar any way.

Gar eggs are poison from what my grandpa told me years ago. The meat is white and tasty though.

Hull out the fish and fillet the back. It is kinda like cutting backstraps from a deer. Two boneless white fillets that are then cut up into steaks. Fry just like you would Catfish.

The old rule for gar, carp, eel, drum, etc.----eat'em while they're hot.
