I rarely spider rig that fast. Usually from .4 to .7 mph works best for me and sometimes even slower (like in the winter).

When I am spider rigging, I like to keep moving at or around 1 mph by GPS, I have tried faster with a bigger weight, and I have tried slower with a smaller weight, I have had mixed results, usually around 1 mph with a 3/4 ounce weight is what I settle on, does anyone have any tips or tricks or suggestions.

for me
winter .2-.4 mph
spring/late fall .5-.7 mph
summer/early fall .9-1.2 mph
i do believe the faster 1 mph speeds create a reaction strike in warmer water

This time of year, the most likely place to catch Crappie is to find the deepest water in the lake and fish 1-5 ft off the bottom. Either go slow or sit still....they are kinda lazy right now and won't chase bait very far...put it in front of their nose and let them get a good look at it!!
