I've been talking with the Corp. regarding our Crappie Condo Fish Habitat project. We're in the planning stages right now. The Corp. has 4 or 5 schools lined up to make bambo crappie condos this spring. They're planning on making 400 condos!
400 CONDOS!
That's all I know right now. I don't know what lakes or schools are involved either. I'm not sure if any of it's set in stone yet or not. I do know the Corp. is really excited about this project continuing.
Sorry I don't have more details, but I thought you guys might be interested in knowing what's being kicked around.

Nimrod, if you happen to get a local school interested in something like this, feel free to have them contact me, if they have any questions.

Agri, have you hit up Doug Ward at Nettleton High in Jonesboro? I think that he is still there and there are plenty of lakes in that area that need them.
With CEB being up in J-town now, he could go by and show Doug how to build them. I am sure that there are some Crappie.com'ers that could go by there and do it.

LRJoe1, I haven't contacted anyone about this project. The Corp of Engineers is the one "recruiting" schools. Which just goes to show how much they're into this project. Although, there was at least one school that called the Corp up and volunteered, because they heard about our project.

I think this is a good project. When I was in agri/ffa I showed animals and had a good time. However not everyone could afford animals or have the means to go places and show them. This looks like it gets more young people involved I think thats great. Was not into sports or band, which are good things also, just not my cup of tea. Would have loved to have done something like this in school. Can you keep us informed on what lakes they are gonna b doing this on?
nothing beats time on the water
I'll definitely keep the updates coming. I imagine as spring approaches things will start really happening. We started in February last year if I remember correctly.

Looks like there will be four schools building bamboo crappie condos this year. Centerpoint, Mt. Ida, Mena, and Kirby. Mt. Ida and Mena will be building condos for Lake Ouachita, Kirby for Lake Greeson, and Centerpoint for Degray Lake.
I've got to get a few projects wrapped up in the shop, then we'll be starting on this project. Maybe a few weeks....I would like to get some weather that isn't freezing cold.
