    Default Squirrel/snake

The lake I fished today has trees setting out in it and the squirrels are working them over pretty good.I know most hunters have heard a squirrels distress call for help something got me.I heard a distress call and started looking as to where it was coming from.Didn't spot the distress caller but did notice another squirrel coming to the tree the sound was coming from.I thought I was going to see a bird of prey with the young squirrel in his mouth and the older squirrel was going to whip up on him.Low and behold when the other squirrel made it to the tree to help the other one he threw a snake out that tree. Then the squirrel came down the tree so fast I thought he was going to run his head in the water but stop at water edge.He went all the way around the tree at water edge looking for the snake. That was one P'd off squirrel, the snake came up with his head sticking up 6in above the water about 20 foot from the tree just a getting it across the water.

While all this was happening I had a big old bream on trying to get off but I wasn't going to miss the squirrel fight over a bream lol.

What was funny to me was when the snake swam to the bank he went up a little bitty tree and looked as tho he was scared to death.I thought the only time I had to worry about a snake falling in the boat or on me was in the spring of the year.I knew they climbed trees in the spring looking for bird eggs and never really give it a thought after that.I guess tho they eat baby squirrels too and coons or what ever lives in the knot holes.Dang didn't want to worry about snakes this time of year falling in the boat.I try to fish every day but sometimes miss a day now and then,I have seen alot wildlife things happen.I've seen bass eat baby woodducks, turtles,a bird on a low hanging limb.I've seen deer swim the river and slip and fall back into the water trying to go up a bluff bank.

I live in the northeast part of the state and fish maining black river and the oxbows off black river.

Man that is something else....remind me never to go squirrel hunting in north east Arkansas. Them dudes have a arnold swatsnagger attitued and they might just come out of those trees and attack a man. Did you say that snake was as big as a stove pipe. Just cannot rest after hearing this story...
If the good Lord is willing and the creeks dont rise I'll catch a slab today.

    Default Deer

I did not see this, but I had a crappie fisherman tell me he was coming down Little River going toward the lake when he saw two deer standing on the river bank.

They jumped into river to swim across, when in the middle of the river he saw one deer splashing and he went under never to be seen again. The second deer made it across. I ask him what happened and he said I do not know unless a gator got him. They are in the river I have seen them around the spillway geting gar fish and I have seen them numerous times in creeks.

could of been one of those monster deer eating catfish:D

The gator is one thing I wish AG&F would have left off its list as to restore, man had already gotten reed of the man eater.I'm getting to were I'm afraid to take the grandkids ditch fishing b/c you never know where they will roam dearing mating season.

Someone e-mailed me lastnight and said he seen a bass get a squirrel off the end of a log while eating a nut.He also said he seen the same bass a few min.'s later putting another nut on the end of the log.I really thought green carp was the dummest fish in the lake but if they're getting that smart we'll haveta buy hunting lic just to catch them.
