It sure seems that way every time I fish it this time of year, but they are still in there.I did ok back in the spring in all the oxbows but I'm having trouble catching a miss for supper lately in all the oxbows around here. The weather pattern has been off this year as to what it was last year, usually black river is the better choose this time of year.It would be that is if ever clears up,fished it yesterday and it was up and muddy with no luck.
I've picked one oxbow to fish this time of year as to learn how to fish them in the dog days of summer.Believe me when I say I haven't found how are what or when they want something to eat. They bite and hang on for a little while but turn it lose before you get them into the boat.It doesn't matter if you use jigs, cranks, crickets or worms and even the crappie nibs aren't to their liken. However I have learned most fish are sitting on bottom and are not interested in chasing their food.I get every few action strikes and when I do they usually bite the tail off my jigs.I do not use a long ploe but think its the only way your going catch any out of the oxbows around here this time of year. With Long poles and fish the brush and trees on bottom and not move the bait think you could catch plenty. It would be a slow way of fishing as to sit and wait on the bite but it will pay off. When I get bored trying to catch and ending up with nothing I tie on a blue and silver rattle trap and catch a few gars lol.
