Keep it simple when it comes to jig colors. I use mainly solid chartreuse, black/chartreuse, red/white, blue/white.

Try casting roadrunner jigs and fish them slowly.

If you ever see any willow trees in the water try fishing them for sure.

Just about any lay down trees are good too. Try fishing shallow and deep, all around the tree, til you find them.

I get hung less while still fishing jigs than minnows.

I think crappie are easier to catch in water with some color, rather than super clear water.

Learn to use your fishfinder to find the depths most fish are holding at.

Try sinking your own cover where you can find it easily, but others can't.

TreeMyDog has it figured out, I just wish I had more time to apply it.

This weekend, I marked at least two dozen brush piles on Quachita while trolling. I didn't catch anything. But, now I have some holes to check on through out the year. Some guys spider rig, others use jigs exclusively, some use minners, some use minners and jigs, while some tightline when others use a cork.
Bottom line is to concentrate on the trip and the fishing. The catching will come. Read up on some of the methods mentioned through a search on this sight. Try what sparks your interest until you find your MOJO.

Check and see if there is a crappie club in your area. Ask if you could fish as a sub in a tournment. You would learn of what works in your area.

Went fishing last night for bass with art. worms and cranks. Ran a Rebel Deep Wee-R D93 and landed a nice crappie.

They'll hit anything at the right time and place...

That Rebel is a good looking bait, I bet the Kentucky Bass would really like that color.

Here are a few things that might help.
    - If you're jig fishing - fish it slowly (or still) - try different presentations
    - Try different depths and colors until you find what they want that day. Start at the most likely depth and then fish above and below it.
    - Don't sit in one spot too long if they are not biting. Try a new spot. I'll give a brush-pile 15-20 minutes to produce but if I'm fishing trees I won't stay more than 5 minutes without a fish.
    - When all else fails - try a bridge
    - Read crappie.com and any other local forums to see how people in your area are catching them - depth, color, presentation
    - Get a friend and hire a guide for a half-day or full-day trip. it will be money well spent. find a guide who is known for teaching
