    Default ‘Light’ action JDM thoughts?

I’m looking for a rod to fit a niche for me. I love the JDm UL stuff and fish a Tict Rockin Finesse and a Tenyru Lunakia 610 quite frequently.

I’m looking for something w a touch more power to throw up to 5 gr or so and 4lb jdm fouro.

Want to throw some small hard baits in some application.

budget is around $300. I’m not sure of if I should look at US domestic or if there’s a JDM suggestion? Thanks

Danny, I'll be first to give it a go, if you don't mind. The Shimano Soare XR s510L-s which i own @ under $200 from Asian Portal more than meet your rod description....

Well there’s light and then there’s light. I have a Presso ML but most who pick it up would say it is approaching UL-L action. But the things an area trout rod. Rod powers in area trout rods are different than same rating in light game Ajing/Mebaru rods. I’ve been down this road before and purchased bass JDM rods in UL power. They handle heavier baits and line than the 2 specie types of rods i mentioned. A L action in a JDM bass rod is probably more power than you want for the application you mentioned. I own, or have owned, JDM bass rods in UL, L, and ML ratings. If I knew the species of fish you’re after and if it is flat water or current might could get a better idea of what to recommend.

    Regards

Graphiteleader CALZANTE EX 732UL-T would be a good choice. I bought mine off ledhed in 2019 on a trip to California for under $200 after airport broke guides off one of my two rods that I brought with me. Caught my PB gill that was 12" and over 2lbs dragging it out of a brush pile on that trip. Even though it's listed as ultralight I've been using it for finesse bass fishing primarily throwing a 1/8th slider head with a 4" finesse worm with 4# mono. Have caught quite a few 2-4 # bass with it.

Daiwa Gekkabijin Air 68L-T. 5 grams might be a bit of a stretch in my opinion, but I use 2.5 gram jigs with a plastic, and it's about perfect. 4lb varivas is my go to. It's by far my favorite rod now, and I have a lot, including the rockin finesse.

Thanks all. I’m generally looking for tossing smaller jerkbaits, karashi’s, smaller 2-3” plastics and the such. Alphahawks experience w JDM bass rods is helpful as that’s been what I’ve read re: their rating. Appreciate all the feedback.

Kinda old thread now but I picked up a Megabass Triza Yamasemi at the end of last season and it pretty much nails what you're looking for I think. I was fishing it with PE 0.4 and 4lb fluoro on a C2000 reel for panfish (almost solely 0.9gr jighead and 1.5inch plastics) and I believe PE 0.8 and 7lb fluoro for bass with exactly the lures you mentioned; 65 size jerkbaits, karashi, 2.5inch swimbaits on 1/12-1/8oz jighead and lighter strolling baits, 1/15-1/10oz ned and the rod does all that perfectly. This coming season I'm switching to 0.6 PE (on a C2000 reel) as a middle ground and going to try just sticking with the 4lb fluoro as I think it'll be fine to handle everything. Panfish, trout, bass and more, it's a really fun rod. A 9 inch bluegill is a battle and a 3lb bass is a war.

Bonus is that it's a multipiece rod so it packs up tiny and also has a fast tip as well as xf solid tip if you happen to want that (I used the fast tip almost exclusively).
