I haven’t targeted green fish for a good while but when I quit I was using what’s considered light tackle. It was also laughed at by the glitter missile bunch. I used 5 1/2 and 6’ rods with 6lb mono with a #1 or 1/0 double offset worm hook with the point tweaked sideways a few degrees and a 1/32 bullet weight that was usually pegged. Most of the plastics were from the bargain box at Wally and were 4”, some with a curl tail. I did this cuz I was tired of long days spent with few hits and several misses that I attributed to them carrying the worm around without the hook in their mouth. The smaller package is mostly eaten whole and the tweak of the hook usually catches a lip instead of pulling through flat without purchase. I thought it was very successful and I stayed busy. Even caught some extra large gill variety’s. The largemouth ranged from the pounders on up to several around the 6# mark. As you can guess the action of the rod made the deal. Enough tip to feel and enough middle and butt to set the hook and steer em around some. That rig and some 1/8oz spinnerbaits all fit in a shirt pocket and had me set for a good morning walk. You have to keep us posted as to what’s working for you. Tackle has changed and the Zman stuff is a game changer too. I have a Ned rig on my bench, been there a while, aybe you’ll get me fired up and I’ll finally drag it with me.
