It has to do with line diameter as well as pound rating. If you notice some of the 3# max mono line rated rods can handle PE line at the 0.3 Gou which is likely around 7 pounds. Those guides on the Lunakia are tiny. Of course this is my take after viewing a lot of translated videos and reading translated blogs…which can be a daunting endeavor at best.Quote:

hey fella's havent posted in a very long time. work has been taking all my time the past 2 years. has anyone one here delved into the bfs market yet. ive been kicking it around for a while. the jdm stuff for the most part would require around a $600 to as much as $1200 investment for a combo. ive seen where shimano and kastking are producing a couple of rods and reels in the American market that are much more affordable. after reading about them the reels do seem to be legitimate bfs products with super light and shallow spools. the rods however do not seem to be any different than what has been around for years. any thoughts.
I’ve thought…and researched a lot…..about going down that road. A good BFS rod is much less expensive than a JDM spinning rod. BFS rods are not as sensitive as the high end JDM spinning. Which is probably why I have not gone down that road. Of course BFS was never really meant to cast micro soft plastics. Now that I am out on the Little Red I need to rethink about going BFS. I have all the spoons and sinking minnows that that system was really designed for and a BFS setup would sure be better for using those in a trout river than my spinning setups. You may already know of him, but Hobie Wan Kenobi on YouTube has a great channel dedicated to BFS. Will be following this with interest if you choose to go BFS. Keep us posted.Quote:

Thinking of spending $600-$700 on a JDM setup. I haven't purchased anything in a long time and am eager to do so.
What would be a quality UL setup in that range?? I prefer an area rod as opposed to an Ajing rod and definitely a 1000 size Shimano or Daiwa spinning reel. I do have an ABU reel that is very good. Thoughts and thanks!!

Daiwa is soon to release the new Arity but it comes in at close to 500 bucks. The Zenon is every bit as good as my 2021 Presso yet is 30 bucks cheaper.
