Am I ok using SOS 2lb line on my JDM rods? The ones I own seem to perform well with it...
Yes on both accounts. I used SOS for quite a while on my JDM rods. I quit using it for 2 reasons.....I could no longer see it and to try JDM lines. Now all I use is hi-vis JDM lines.....nothing wrong with SOS line.

If anyone is looking for PE line thinner than human hair, check out XBraid Upgrade X4 0.2. It is certainly not supple, it will also sing in your guides, but it is THIN. It is strong for its diameter and does not seem to be prone to wind knots. Once I had a sizable mackerel beat it into a small bird's nest while I was trying to get all the hooks out. To my surprise, I managed to untangle in no time.
The suffix nanobraid has been great for me so far.
the 2lb is advertised at .001” diameter.
Break strength seems to be closer to the 3-3.5 lb range though.
it’s excellent line for vertical presentations and swimming jigs if not in deep water.
Hold on to your butt, though, if you think you will cast this line into a strong wind.
I couldn't break 2 lbs Nanobraid at 8 lbs. I agree, it is way too supple. If you look at 3 lbs JDM PE lines, they are much thinner and more round than Nanobraid, and are also priced very competitively. But Nanobraid is right here, available through Amazon. Huge plus...
I do not have any good means to measure the actual diameter, but when I compare 2 lbs Nanobraid with #0.15 JDM PE that has breaking strength of 3 lbs side by side the JDM line is far thinner to a naked eye. I do think that Nanobraid is a very good line, but I wish they were honest about the breaking strength (and likely diameter).
As I do realize I haven’t seen any in person, and also do not possess a way to measure thickness of line this small.
I decided to order some myself to see what it’s all about.
Daiwa Presso Sensor+Si II 150m 3lb #0.15 is on its way expedited from Japan right now, this is drop shot season for me, so it won’t take long for me to be able to report back on this line.

Never used that one, but it sounds similar to Gekkabijin Tsuki No Hibiki. Would be curious to read about your opinion on it.
Out of curiosity, what vendor did you order this line from? Thanks.

Amazon Japan has it in stock.......I have never ordered from this site, just passing information along.
Definitely high end PE line! Let us know what you think about it.

Will definitely report back.
I hope it’s good, I’m not terribly proud of what I paid to get it here.

What rod/reel will you use it on?
It will go on the 2020 Luvias on the Lunakia 610.
If it works out well I will put the other half of the spool on one of my 2015 Luvias spare spools to use on the 18 Finezza Prototype.
Don’t see myself using this much for casting techniques, drop shot and split shot/UL Carolina rigs are where braid excels for me in the waters I fish.

I have used the Unitaka night game in 3 and 4-lb without issue yet. I had a rough time connecting this thin diameter to a fluorocarbon leader but have settled for the double uni knot and haven’t had any problems since.

Bummer!!! This is the message I received from Plat after ordering the Unitika Nightgame a couple of days ago. Any words of wisdom from those who have successfully ordered would be appreciated. Thanks, JayW
Your order has been updated to the following status.

Thank you for your order.
Sorry but we cannot ship any parcels to your country by Japan post service and we can use just DHL now because of the covid-19 as you know. The DHL shipping charge will be too high for the order so we canceled the order this time.
Could you reorder after Japan post restart their work ? We update our top page each time so please check it constantly. Then you can tell if Japan post restarts their work or not.
We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you will stay safe.
Thank you.
[NOTE] If you try to calculate the shipping cost by DHL shipping, please feel free to contact any time.
(Depending on the region, it is around 2,000 yen.)
We hope you and the people living in your area remain healthy.
Best regards,
PLAT/ Eriko Yokoo
Never had that issue but usually have to much in order. What size were you after and I’ll see if I have a spare spool.
No words of wisdom for you. Until EMS starts back up a lot of us are just going to have to wait. Lot of items I want to buy...and already would have bought...the seller only uses EMS so no way to get particular rods I want. Small items are just too expensive when you ship by DHL or FedEx. I have enough terminal tackle....jig heads...line...to get me through another 20 weeks. Surely the service will resume by then...but time will tell.

@Alphahawk
Randy, how full do you fill the spool with the Varivas ester line? A picture would help. I have another spool of it, and want to give it another try. The first time I used it, I filled it up to the lip. It was a disaster, wind knots and tangles, and I got mad and stripped it all off. Thanks.
My first experience with it was just like yours Jawjatek... still have 2 spools so kind of interested myself...
This is part of what makes CDC a great site - I appreciate your generous offer. I was trying to order some 4lb and 6lb test to try out, but it is no big deal. I've never had any and I don't know what I am missing.:dono I guess I'll be able to order in the near future.
Thanks again, JayW
Alphahawk,
Thanks for your reply. It was my first order from PLAT and was not sure if I checked all of the right boxes. The order process was a little confusing, but it appears from your comment that shipping issues are causing problems for everybody.
Thanks again for the info.

Here is how I do it on my low ratio reels...the 1000 FW series and the Presso Limited 1025. I only put 70 meters on the spool. I count my handle turns exactly 116 times and I am done. The beauty of this is I can get 2 reels spooled up with one spool of line. Even when a spool gets low after a lot of use of breaking off and retying it still casts a mile. I wasted about 2 spools of line before I figured this out. At first I hated the stuff...now I love it. Other use this line and maybe they have better...different methods they can share...but this works for me.

Got the new Daiwa .15 PE in today, so of course I had to spoil it up and head out to the lake....
First impressions from 4 hours on use:
Good day to test line; my honey hole was loaded up... 12-15” largemouth, 10-14” smallmouth, bull bluegills, and a school of monster yellow bass.
Started with my standard drop shot rig: Gamakatsu #10 open eye siwash crimped on a #7 swivel, then went to Gekkbijin 1gr #6 with 2” gulp minnow, finished up at dark with a handmade balsa baby crankbait.
Lesson Learned/Impression:
This line is tiny!
2.8lb break means 2.8 break like other JDM lines.
The slick coating on this line makes it superior braid
The slick coating on this line makes knots tricky
You MUST run a shock leader
Sensitivity is top notch
Super visible above water, disappears under water
Overall I’m quite impressed. This fishes just like the varivus Orange ester, a quick shock load with pop this line, first fish of the evening was an unknown size/specie the took off like a rocket and popped the knot, it didn’t slip, broke. Like a dummy I retied and sent another 95 cent rig into the depths only to have the knot pop again. At that point I added 6’’’ of Orvis 6x tippet and all was well the rest of the night.
Next spool will be .2 over this .15.
What knot were you using? I haven't tried the PE line yet..
I use the Pitzen knot for almost all terminal connections.
Line to line I usually use a 2-3 turn surgeons knots for shock leaders, but even with 4 turns it would slip with this PE.
Double pitzen knot tied like a double uni did the trick nicely without making a big knot to pass through guides.
I’m doing some research on super line knots now. I do not like Palomar knot except for when I drop shoot with out my swivel/hook rig.

Thanks Yodie...I have trouble tying the double uni with the small lines...that's part of the reason I haven't tried the PE yet...
Info on the side of my reel states 2lb (0.11mm)... I was looking at some line to try potentially but I think it is .12mm or .13mm. Will casting distance be impact drastically by the slightly increased size?
Or is recommended to stay at that size or smaller?
