A couple years back me and a buddy would go almost every Saturday morning during the really hot months of the year. We just used ultralight gear. I had a little Pfleuger underspin spooled with 4 lb crappie line and then put on about a 3 foot leader of 2 lb Berkley Vanish. We used the little Berkley Powerbout trout worms mostly but did ok on live wigglers too. Never had much luck with Powerbait balls or corn. I think most any tackle will work as long as you have a leader of the Vanish and use real trout hooks.

It's just kinda weird how they turn on and off. We would usually go real early and fish for an hour before we caught any and then we would both limit out in about 20 minutes. Then continue to fish for fun (remember no culling) and then they would turn off again.

Glad you brought it up though as Ive been meaning to go back soon. Also still have yet to make the run from the boat launch where the rivers meet up to the pumphouse which I have been wanting to do.
