I saw him too but figured out which was you when I saw the one you shared here. That’s cool. I was just wondering how you spot them without being right on top of them?

Well, if I'm not specifically out looking for snakes, I just make sure I don't step where I can't see. If I'm out looking for snakes on purpose, I just go to some good habitat and move through it slowly scanning all the likely spots especially well. The vast majority of the snakes you see are going to be harmless anyway. And, if you just take reasonable precautions, you're very unlikely to ever be bitten. People run into issues when they start trying to kill them needlessly, or have a few too many adult beverages and start showing off how they can catch the copperhead.
Freak accidents do happen. A friend of mine reached onto a shelf in a shed and was bitten on the thumb by a copperhead a couple of years ago. Even I probably get a little careless in places like that. But, he went to the hospital. His hand swelled up and hurt for a while. He was back at home in a day or two. You don't want to get bitten by a venomous snake, but in north america, as long as you seek medical attention, the chances of you dying are almost zero. You might lose a finger though, so be careful.
In summary, just watch where you step.

Mine was under the tree my son's swing is in. It had to go. I don't like any alive snake.
I’ve never just went out in the wild to kill one. But if they are close to the house around where kids and stuff are gonna be then I agree they have to go.

But I have always been fascinated by them.

I don't want the venomous ones in my yard either. I understand that. Personally, I'd relocate them, but I have a lot of snake wrangling experience. I love finding them out in nature though. I'd rather see a rattlesnake than one of those boring bears in the smokies any day. And, I definitely like seeing the nonvenomous snakes in my yard. Free rodent control.

I’ve hunted and fished all my life and have saw every kind up close alive except a rattle snake. I’ve saw them dead but would love to see one alive. As long as it wasn’t to close.
