Glad you gift to go anyways.
I have always wanted to try and fish for them during a hatch but just haven't ever got around to it.
and it would be like you tried if I did a jig or a beetle spin.

I was planning to go over to Swan Creek WMA and fish a couple hours Saturday morning. Going across the Hwy. 31 causeway I noticed a few willow flies so I put in at the park and fished along the causeway. No luck, it looked like they had a big willow fly hatch Friday and had mostly died off. I guess the fish were full they did not want my jigs or Beetle Spins. There were tons of dead willow flies right against the bank in the water, and right against the band was where I got all of my bites. One of those days I could not get a hook in a fish if my life depended on it. I will start keeping a few flies and my fly rod in the kayak, it might have made a difference.

I am going to start keeping the fly rod in the truck next time hopefully I will have the right fly to offer up.
From my past experience you will need to match the hatch with something pretty close or they won't bite it.

You guys know of a good willow fly pattern?
Sorry I don't know a pattern, I have a few that I have picked over time that are in about the right color and size.
The little store across from Lowe's in Hartselle sells a willow fly imitation made by Betts tackle that looks good
