Caught this in my bream trap today. Never seen anything like this. It was caught in a small pool of stream water. It also has teeth and fine scales and is extremely slimy.

Grass pickerel use to catch them up in ky at peabody
Now you have piqued my interest. Upon a closer look, it may actually be a redfin. I have searched the Internet, including Outdoor Alabama. While OA lists grass pickerel in Alabama there is no associated information suggesting grass pickerel in Alabama. While the picture is inconclusive there does appear to be a red tint on the fins. Bottomline: I am no expert, but thanks for turning the thinking cap.

It does resemble the markings to that of a bass, It's just weird catching this. I have fished the choctawhatchee river in dale and geneva county since I was 14 and have never ran across one of these till today. I had set my trap in a small branch that ran under the road just down from my house to hopefully catch a few bream to feed some Flatty's tomorrow. But then again never caught a hybrid til this February while fishing the river in geneva. I guess you just never know what you will come across.

I actually have the fish in an aquarium so tomorrow I can get a better shot of the fins. That way if they are indeed red it will narrow it down a bit. I plan to return it back to where it was caught I just had to get it to the house for a little closer look.
