    Default March 14-18 Weiss trip...

I and a few other guys will be making a long weekend trip to Weiss March 14-18. They went last year but this is my first. We are staying and launching from Pruetts Fish Camp. Any advice on where the slabs oughta be at that time?

Cowan creek is as good a place to fish on the lake as you can find. We are coming down the 15th and will fish cowan creek and spring creek as well. IF your buddies are familiar with the lake there are a lot of good coves off the main river channel in the riverside area. WATCH FOR THE GUIDES TO POST.

I'll just follow you, what are you fishing in?:D Just kidding. I'm sure we will cross paths while we're down there. I'll be in a Tracker 175 with Ohio registration.

will be in a cranberry and silver ranger. Want start fishing until friday. There will be three of us in the boat. I'll help you if I can but hopefully you will already be on fish when we get there. Long line trolling with jigs is the best method on weiss. There usually are several guides fishing in cowan so watch what they are doing. Leave mea few

Hey speck- Go to weiss almost every late february and always stay at pruetts. Great place to stay. Dont discount fish being shallow have caught many limits at this time of year around piers toward the back of cowan creek also try along rocks sround the bridge. Alot of people overlook shallower water this time of year. Watch the weather and water temp.!!

    Default Weiss trip in March

Cowan, 3-Mile, Spring, Dead Boy, Trotters, Waterhouse and Mud creeks are all good in Mid-March, and long line trolling with 1/32 oz. jigs on 6 lb. test line works well in 10 ft or less, can troll in as little as 3 ft of water and catch fish, until you hit a stump... If more than 10 ft. deep- try 1/16 oz jigs.
Weiss hot colors, year end and year out are: (if muddy to heavy stained try- bubble gum, black/chartruse, blue/chartuse, red/chartruse or plain chartruse. If only stained to clear try - blue/blue/blue, red/white/blue, black/blue/chartruse or anything with chartruse.) Good luck.
Take a Kid fishing, keep only enough to eat, and release the rest to spawn again. Pop

If you don't mind tellin', what style jigs are most productive on Weiss? Around here we use a lot of curl tail grubs and tubes, just about any soft plastics. I hear a lot of guys on this site using hair jigs. Never tried them a lot, except in extreme cold water when they are super slow.

It's been my experience that marabou tail jigs are the most widely used ones ... whether they're chenille body or Hal Fly/Jiffy Jig type, or whatever. Look around in the bait stores and Marina bait sections, and you'll soon see what the locals use the most
Two 1/32oz jigs on each of the three poles you're allowed - will give you six baits in the water at one time. If there's any Crappie around, you should have something on there that they'll take an interest in :D
I've caught them at Weiss, on just about every "type" of jig I own, using these methods - casting, trolling, dock shooting.
When trolling, just make sure the jig has a light wire hook, and you're using 6-8lb test line ........ or else, make sure you brought/bought a serious supply of jigs cause you're going to drag those jigs across a whole bunch of "wood" :p ... luck2ya ....... cp

The middle of March is usually a great time to be fishing on Weiss Lake. The Cowan Creek area is a great place to start during this time and Pop Rivers also listed a lot of other great areas that are close by for you to fish. As far as the type of jigs to use, everyone has their favorites...but I fish with Southern Pro Hot Grubs on 1/16 or 1/32 ounce jig heads. If you do not have any, stop by and see BJ at the Weiss Mart Marina in Cedar Bluff to get them. They are the only marina on the lake that carries them and he has ALL of the great colors! I hope this information helps you out...See Ya' on the Water

Hello, I am thinkin' of coming down for my first trip to weiss the last week of March. Where is a good place to stay around Cowan ? Will have my 13 yr. old son with me, would this be the area to start fishin' at? Have fished Reelfoot the last 2 spring breaks and want to try somewhere different. Thanks for any info, it is appreciated.
