Have you thought about drilling a hole through the base about a foot up, then running a copper wire through them and attaching one big weight to them, will help keep all together when they hit bottom. I've done it that way for years up north. Just gotta find some Christmas around here this weekend, trash pick up is on Monday here and I 've been looking but only have 1 so far.
