Thread: Flint 4/13

Was the water muddy on flint? I went to cotaco today and only fished 45 mins. It was flowing at a decent pace with muddy visibility about 10 inches at dawn. I moved down stream and fished the enterance of the sloughs. The water was flowing from the river into the sloughs and was very clear. Caught 10 keepers off the banks.

Stained, but not muddy. Fish on the graph in 5.5 FOW, but couldn't get any notes on minnows.

@ Jayce - were you fishing next to Sharps Ford bridge? By down stream do you mean towards the river??

I might try fishing Cotaco tomorrow...that place is so hit or miss for me tho.

Yes. I have only been 3 times total. I'm in a kayak so I can only explore at a turtle pace. Lol. I've had several folks tell me between sharps ford and river road is the best places for kayaks and less boat traffic. I went Sunday and the first laydown I started jigging give me half a limit after 4 hours. A bout 8 different boats come by shutting down the bite. the fish were 10-15ft off the banks and the bite started back after 15 mins or so. I got em in 6-8ft of water about 5ft down on shinners. Half still had eggs. I am far from an expert. I Just started fishing wheeler late last year and there is only so much I can scout in my yak. Any suggestions from members on other put in areas on cotaco would be helpful.

I moved around aND didn't fish the same spot for 4 hours. but kept coming back to that laydown. Very very dangerous area for kayaks though from what i experienced. I had 2 boats come by wide open without letting up after seeing me and pointing (kids). I learned after the first boat to grab some brush if they ain't slowing down and HOLD ON. lol.

I usually fish the front of the creek right where the river turns into Cotaco and fish that stretch of creek until it runs into the wide open flat. The section that is south of Sharps Ford bridge looks amazing (hundreds of laydowns), I just have never done very well up in there tho.

I prefer to just spend a few minute per lay down unless I keep catching them thee versus tying up on tree all day.

Hows the water level over there?? They dropped the dang bottom out 3-4 weeks ago and I haven't been back!

From looking at the banks it was about 18 inches below what looked like being full.

IMO, they are doing you a favor by going by wide open, unless they completely drop all the way down to idle speed when they pass. The worst thing a boater can do when they pass another boat, (be it kayak, bass tracker, or ranger) is to slow down just enough to where they are barely on plane. Then they are somewhat plowing water and will send a bunch of big waves at you versus the couple of smaller ones being up on plane will create. JMO. By the way, I have been on both ends of this scenario.
