Hey guys,
Im not new to crappie fishing, been doing it for years with my dad which lives in Louisiana. He's also been a member of the site for years. But now I'm older and moved to Madison Al for my job. I have done a lot of bream and catfishing on Guntersville this summer and have had great luck. But now it's time to tackle this crappie fishing on my own. I have a small boat so I'm limited on how far I can travel and of course the wind will determine if I can fish or not. I know how to catch them (sort of) but don't have a clue where to go. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Will be at Guntersville state park this coming weekend with the in laws. Wanted to get my Father in law on some fish if the weather acts right. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. One good thing about fishing lake guntersville is that you do not necessarily need a large boat to fish there. Enough landings there that you can pretty much pick out a spot to fish and go drop your boat in right there. Staying at the sp you will be close to town creek which is a pretty popular spot. Brown's creek, just a short drive from there is also pretty popular. Anywhere where you go on the big g should be good fishing.

Easy place to start are any of the causeways/bridges. Docks should start producing soon too. Look at the map for the bridges close to the SP and start there.

Be very aware of the wind in that small boat. Guntersville can get whipped up real bad if the wind gets up and is sustained. It's really gotten my attention a few times and made me change my plans.

Thanks a lot for the tips and advice guys. Believe me I know to be aware of the wind. Coves are my friend in my small boat. Hope to catch a few and have a report by the end of the weekend.

I hope you have some good luck while you are here fishing. I fished in the area you will be in next week and do not want to crash your hopes but I did not catch any crappie. I only fished the creek channels and some lay down. I talk some some guys and the most fish were catch under the bridge with minners. But hope you have good luck. Port a report how you did.

Thanks for the report G3fisherman. Hopefully this cool weather will help some. I have 3 full days to see what I can do. I surely won't catch fish sitting at home on the couch ��

Monkey Milk and Blue Ice Bobby Garland Shad Jigs w/ 1/16 or 1/24 jig heads have been the combo so far this year. I also heard one report with Blue Thunder. Just use stuff that looks like a shad in shad colors and you should be good at the bridges.

Hope you get on em BamaFan JR! We will be in Dallas helping your sister move in. They are starting to catch em around here in the flats at Cypress. If your limited to the coves try those docks like BobD says, that can be a blast under a cork. Have a good wknd camping. Talk to you after the wknd!
