Thread: Dock Shooting at Logan Martin

When do the crappie start moving to the docks on Logan Martin? Is it too early, and is there even any water under the docks yet, I guess would be a better question. Last time I was there in March all docks were sittin on dry land. I'll be fishing out there this weekend and have always wanted to catch crappie shooting docks. Tried it a couple of weeks ago at Lay and had a blast but no crappie.

Water is up and warm on Logan. This weekends weather doesn't look good though.

As far as when will the crappie be under the docks, you just gotta keep checking... one minute they're not, the next minute they are.

They are giving lots of rain for Saturday. Another thing you may want to consider is this is race weekend at Talladega. Pell City is usually a busy place on race weekend. All motels and campgrounds are usually packed. If you go let us know how you do.

My brother and I went Saturday and to say the least, it was pretty tough for us.
With the previous week's stable weather and the water coming up a little, we thought we were going to kill 'em. Not so. We've got about 20 or so docks we can pretty much count on to produce and they didn't. We managed to get 5 crappie(4 were 11-12" & 1 was barely 9 inches) and 2 bass in about 6 hours.
The highlight of the day came first thing in the morning when I got a spotted bass that was about 4.5lbs.
Talk about a fight... 5'6" light action rod & 4lb line. I just knew I had a world record crappie.
Just keep checking. We hammered 'em last year and didn't really start doing good until May when the lake was up.
BTW, everything was caught on white crappie stingers on 1/16 oz. heads about 4' deep. Shoot it back in the shadows and wait.

I went out of Riverside on Saturday and fished north of the railroad tressel from 7:00am til 5:00pm. I caught one decent bluegill and a couple of small bass trolling. Hooked a few fish, but they were insistent on not being table fare. I tried a few docks but only hooked one and lost it at the boat. Time to invest in a net. A slow day to say the least, but was still enjoyable.(No kids or wife)Gotta have those every once in a while.

When I'm out trolling i see folks at the docks and it's hit and miss from what I see. One day I see them catching them others not. Don't know why?
