Auburn University football student-athlete Cam Newton is immediately eligible to compete, according to a decision today by the NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff. The NCAA concluded on Monday that a violation of amateurism rules occurred, therefore Auburn University declared the student-athlete ineligible yesterday for violations of NCAA amateurism rules.
When a school discovers an NCAA rules violation has occurred, it must declare the student-athlete ineligible and may request the student-athlete's eligibility be reinstated. Reinstatement decisions are made by the NCAA national office staff and can include conditions such as withholding from competition and repayment of extra benefits. Newton was reinstated without any conditions. [...]
"Our members have established rules for a fair and equal recruitment of student-athletes, as well as to promote integrity in the recruiting process,” said Kevin Lennon, NCAA vice president for academic and membership affairs. "In determining how a violation impacts a student-athlete's eligibility, we must consider the young person's responsibility. Based on the information available to the reinstatement staff at this time, we do not have sufficient evidence that Cam Newton or anyone from Auburn was aware of this activity, which led to his reinstatement. From a student-athlete reinstatement perspective, Auburn University met its obligation under NCAA bylaw 14.11.1. Under this threshold, the student-athlete has not participated while ineligible."

why would it be a sad day for bama? We have had our share of ncaa problems. All the teams do it some just get caught. I really doubt the ncaa is done they dont quit until they find something and will dig until they do. I hope they dont and it was a well played football game and newton is a good player and auburn is playing good football this year. Like I said dont know why this would be a sad day for bama. Alabama currently leads the series at 40–33–1 oh did I mention 13 national chapionships

I am glad nothing is going to happen, or as of right now anyway. However I do not think this is the end of the story but I do hope it is. The thing that is odd to me is this. If amateurism rules are broken but no punishment isdelivered from them, then why even have rules. Also seems funny if I am readin it correctly that they concluded only after the iron bowl that the rules were broken, but then immediately reinstated him. Am I readin that wrong or does that seem suspicious to anyone else? I am not an Auburn hater. I love SEC football. I told an LSU fan at the begginning of the season that Bama and Auburn were the two best teams in the SEC and he thought I was crazy on the Auburn part. Now he has to eat the fact that Auburn is so good and I have to eat the fact that Bama was not as good as I thought. They are good, but not what I expected.

just like playing songs over the PA before the game CLASSLESS.
lets talk about recent history, after bammer couldnt give out as many scholorships as they wanted. last 25yrs AUBURN leads the series 15-11. and bammer does have alot of national championships most won but some claimed years after the fact. when some bammer looked back and said "HEY WE WUZ THE BESTES TEAM THAT YAR !!! WE SHUD HAVE A CHAPONSIP". so yall claimed it(NOTICE AUBURN DIDNT CLAIM THE NC THEY TOOK AWAY FROM USC) but you can bet bammer wud have and who knows 20 yrs from now they might.
so you can have your NC I"LL take beating yalls rump 7 out of the last 10 yrs

almost forgot: its a sad day because bammer was hoping AUBURN would get in trouble only thing you had to look forward to now that AUBURN is undefeated. I'll say it one more time when bammers winning we here about how great they are when there losing they talk about AUBURN. read this whole thread and see if you can figure out this year. but dont worry bammers you only got about 358 more days !!!! ya need to be mapping out your trip to cotton bowl and polishing your bear coke bottles.
and that will give you less time to worry about AUBURN.

the shopping his son part was not a lie, what I read said he did shop his son but they could find no evidence that his son knew about it. I hate this even happened at all. However, if his dad did do it, I think it is certain Cam knew about it, They just cannot prove it. I hate this all came up anyway because cam is one he-- of a great player. I do not think he was the difference in the Bama game like he was all other games. It was a whole Auburn team effort.

You are forgetting two undefeated seasons that Alabama deserved the title that they were not awarded and did not claim. So if Bama was so swift to claim titles I am sure they would count these as well. Just pokin at ya jusan, it is all in fun
