There should be complimentary therapy for those of us who checking in at night is part of our daily ritual. I'm sure there would never be a good time but there is a lot about to be happening in the crappie world over the next couple of weeks. Just sayin. Scott

We are getting somewhere, and we have a plan. The conversion may only take 5 days, not 12, yay. More details to come as soon as my eyes get uncrossed! This computer stuff is for the birds! lol

I understand the feeling. I switched departments because I got tired of coding and SQL (despite my original major and my second major in college having a lot of coding), yet my current responsibilities has me coding Tableau or DAX for PowerBI and still writing SQL queries for reports that help me do my real job responsibilities. My home network is stupidly complicated, although it was the only way to stabilize my wifi because of my neighbors. Get a good night's sleep, and look at it again in the morning. 5 days is a major improvement considering the situation.
If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.

I've learned a couple things these last few, beware of AI. AI is powerful. Let me repeat, AI is here, and it is powerful. It essentially is all the information on the internet, summarized for you at will. We've used it in this conversion repeatedly, over and over, and it helps tremendously. It's essentially "instant answers" to problems, saves tons of time. The problem with this is, if you're stupid, you'll believe everything it says, if you're wise, you learn to read between the lines. It does give out wrong answers, but if you can read between the lines, it's absolutely awesome. Next, I also see it's taking away tons of jobs. For one, no need for paralegals (already seen these jobs disappear), or anyone that does grunt work computer coding. Lots of jobs are going to be lost. Best advise I can gave the youth in the old days was, get into computers. Not so much anymore as computers are taking over all the computer jobs! lol Now you kinda have to do stuff with your hands IMHO. Blue collar jobs are golden.

Anyway, the tentative plan is to start the conversion on Wednesday, and go live on the new system on Sunday. So we won't be down at all, we'll just be running off Wednesdays data on Sunday. So we'll simply loose those posts made from Wednesday to Sunday. This is a tremendous improvement from a 12 day loss of data.

Also unreal is the cost of an upgrade like this. I see quotes of from 7 grand to 12 grand to convert a data base our size. My buddy Adam and I are doing it ourselves. Well, mostly Adam, thanks Adam. He is the man. I'm telling you, I'm gonna nominate him as 2026 Man of the Year here on Crappie.com if this is successful.

I've been around long enough to go from "Learn a Trade" which most know I have a couple of Pockets full of Trades. Then it was "Learn Computers" MS DOS hit the scene. I wrote one of the first Lotus 1-2-3 Shipboard Stability Calculators for Drilling Barges in the Oilfield using a computer at the Gateway Store on Veterans Blvd in Metarie, La. And now it's back to work with your hands as your computer is putting you in the unemployment line. Last night I saw a video where auto makers are making DIY repairs obsolete employing "Tamper Switches & Seals" so if you work on your 2026 or newer model car it won't run or it voids your warranty.

I need to go fishing, this can make your head spin.

I've thought for years that this was where computers are taking us. It's been years since the "simple repairs" had became impossible without a couple Thousands worth of computer and since then it has gotten steadily worse. Give me back the simple anytime..

Too late on being warry of AI and avoid computer jobs--all of that is somewhat engrained in me and have been working on an AI project to help train up new technicians for an ever-evolving workforce, possibly making me the enemy to some. In addition to the primary responsibility of new model vehicle electrical quality, a part of my job is to incorporate new technology in the manufacturing process to streamline the plant to make us more competitive and to improve quality. After the latest of cybersecurity attacks on some companies that employ both my wife and me as well as other associates, there will still plenty of opportunities in cybersecurity.

However, I definitely agree that skilled labor jobs are still in demand and push for the non-college type to get into skilled trades, especially if they like to work with their hands or machinery. There are plenty of days that I wish that I could just work on stuff all day without the meetings, executives, and reports, although that can sometimes get interesting.

    Slab.
One request for you to think about. I know next to nothing about creating websites, but other fishing sites I have belonged to have upgraded their software. They are now banned here at work as they are under the category "hunting and fishing" and I can no longer get my lunchtime reading in.
If you can select a category for your new software, make it something like "news" so CDC is not blocked by many workplaces.

I really think you have a fantastic choice in Priorities! Well done. Let's hope it happens in your favor.
