You can thank Louis DeJoy (former postmaster general) for some of the USPS ineffective service. He tried very hard to make reduced efficiency acceptable. David Steiner took over that Postmaster General position in July of 2025. He used to be the CEO of Waste Management and a FedEx board member. I also have stories about idiotic performance by the postal service. My company used to ship time-sensitive samples overnight to a lab several states away. They were guaranteed to arrive within 24 hours so the testing processing could be initiated on time. Understand that (at the time) the USPS had a guarantee which stated; if the overnight package doesn't arrive in time, the sender is issued a full refund. We always made sure our samples were collected in a timely manner and were submitted to the USPS in time to arrive at the laboratory within the acceptable processing window. For any samples that arrived late to the lab, a portion of the testing was considered invalid, and we would have to explain to the client why. That meant that we had to collect samples that would be processed locally at a state certified lab, to ensure legitimate results. Of course, we'd have to eat the local processing cost. However, most of the out of state samples would arrive at the USPS processing center within 8 miles of their final destination laboratory before 8:00 a.m., yet the postal service couldn't get them to the lab in time, which meant we'd get a 100% refund on shipping. That ended up being ~ 4 times the cost of processing the expired/invalid portion of the testing, meaning that we'd get our samples shipped for free and only need to pay 1/4th the shipping cost to get all results. So, for every one of those jobs, we started automatically collecting separate samples to be processed locally, which wouldn't require us to make a follow-up trip to the jobsite (saving us time & money). It was an incredibly wasteful mistake by the postal service that cost them, but saved us money in the long run. BTW, before DeJoy took over, our packages almost always arrived to the lab in a timely manner (94% of the time), unless extreme inclement weather interrupted the process, which was rare (I have 25 years of documented proof). We have since retired and (thankfully) no longer need to ship anything overnight.

Well Fed Ex isnt much better and if Waste Management is the same one thats around here they really suck.

I had packages getting stuck in the Jackson, MS post office for 2-3 weeks at a time this time last year.

My Amazon prime that I get daily is rarely late .... usually the next day .... BUT when they don't make it, it is ALWAYS on something I needed real bad and then I have to order another one to get here quicker!

Weird, mine come in 1-2 days unless its not a “prime” item. Quite often lately they come the next morning at 5am.

For us here in Springfield, Mo, it don't matter where it started at, (even right here in Springfield, like cross town mail) must go through the reginal sorting center in Kansas City. Crazy. I am now on Ozempic shots I get through the VA. They have to come out of Dallas, Tx. They put them in an insulated cooler with re-freezable cold packs and usually it's an rush Item. Well, this time someone goofed and instead of coming to Springfield, Mo, it went to Springfield, Ill, over to St. Louis, Mo where it sat for a couple of days, then over to Kansas City, Lenexa, Kansas to here. Did I say we have a reginal distribution mail hub, a city mail hub, before it gets to the mail hub that puts it in a bin for the mail carrier to get it and deliver it. No dang wander the post office wants more money again to mail anything. If they would fix all this they could lower the cost at least 25% or more...

All shipping is really a crap shoot now days.
Open packages, damage, delays, you name it.
Wait till you get tracking that says “ orange conex “ …. That’s when it’s coming on a ship from China. It might be a week , might be

-

months.
These usually show up out of the blue when you’re not home, after you’ve about given up.

Only thing prime does for us is tv and movies..

two day shipping rarely happens.. I wonder how they plan to get all there items shipped with out USPS? Are local UPS drops a couple of sacks of Amazon stuff off at the USPS every morning

During the holidays are rural USPS has go back and refill his vehicle part way through the route because of all the Amazon packages….

I've gotten used to it. I live in the country in a heavily wooded area. Driveway off the road 1/2 mile through the woods to the house. Large mailbox on the road. If USPS, UPS, FedEx, and Amazon can't see your house from the road, they're not delivering if the package doesn't fit in the box. Packages are routed to a distribution point locally where we pick them up. That's fine because always secure.
