    Default Questions about High Rock

Hi Guys, I live in Wilmington and am planning a trip up mid January. Will be staying in Swearing creek and was just asking around where might be a good starting point. Not looking for specific spots just where to try and where to stay away from. Lol. Any help would be much appreciated. Merry Xmas and thank you in advance! Steve

It’s gonna depend on the water level. The mouth of swearing creek is like a big round circle and should have fish. Last year (Feb 7-8) was National crappie league tournament and several 10 pound bags (5 fish) caught in mouth of swearing. Water was down like 9 feet. The mouth of any of the creeks should have fish. Main channel from Shrine Club down past 2nd creek should have fish. You will see Shrine Club from mouth of Swearing on other side of lake. If water is up 1-2 feet low Potts Creek is great if you dare to go there. Water level is key. Low water will make it challenging to navigate the lake. You will have red and green buoys to leave swearing. You will see numerous trees in the water from Shrine Club down. Just stay in channel and look for floaters. Big house with terra cotta roof in front of 2nd creek always has fish. Abbotts creek has fish from Holloway bridge back to tiny houses. If high water you may not can get under Abbotts bridge. Crane creek good. Crow creek good. Hope this is enough for you to put a game plan together. Be careful just cutting across lake up swearing area. Good Luck!

655.20 is full pond. Typically 2-3 down this time of year. Last year was planned draw down for dam repairs.

Lake is full and clear (for high rock). Should be good for next couple of weeks. Possible snow on Thursday that’s probably the best day because of barometric pressure. Still lots of schools just south of 2nd creek in main channel. Lots of smaller fish on docks in coves. Potts has 10 ft of water. Lots of big ones but they are spooky. It’s like 1 out of 20 will bite so gotta cover a lot of water and throw at as many as possible up there. But the ones you catch you will like.

Leudy is correct. Smaller fish on docks in coves.
I took a couple of buddies to HR on Friday. Since the boat I keep in NC doesn't have Livescope, we fished docks. We probably caught 50 fish total with most of them 8-9" We culled at 10 and brought 13 home. It was fun, but the bigger ones we caught a few weeks ago on the same docks have moved elsewhere.
