I use a 6'6 okuma ultra light with 3k series piscifun carbon x. 4lb test viscous hi vis and 1/32-1/16oz cubby mini mites. or a paddle tail style plastic, rod tip up to line watch and keep control of the return back.

You talking "cast/retrieve" or LS Flippin ?? (I'm already assuming "fish" refers to Crappie)

My main outfit for open water crappie and gill rod is a 7' Shimano Soare BB with a Shimano Stella 2000cs reel with 2-3# Maxima Ultragreen line. I use a small weighted float and my hand ties, usually 1/48 to 1/24 jigs. Never leave home without it. It catches more big fish than my bass gear. I've caught bass over 10#, 3# Crappie, 15# catfish and a big Grass carp that was close to 50# with this combo.

For real casting I like rods 6' 6" or longer paired with 2500 series Daiwa reels. My favorite has 5# braid with a 6# clear mono leader.

Pappy yep cast & retrieve for crappie suspended in open water. Just interested in something that will throw a 1/32 or 1/16 jig a long way out in front of the boat.

Let us know what you find, 1/16 no problem, 1/32 is a different world, at least for me.
