I just bought and tried my first sorghum molasses this year. Very thick and strong tasting. Not bad. We usually use Karo syrup.
Just enjoyed a dessert, a childhood memory that I had forgotten for years until recently. Curious if it’s a hillbilly thing, or more widely known.
Tore open a big, hot, fluffy biscuit, then smothered it in sorghum molasses…. I grew up with that as a regular thing. Sorry, no pictures, but my better half fed me battered and iron skillet fried deer backstrap slices, biscuits, and gravy made in the same skillet with all the little crunchy remnants of the deer mixed in - it hit me, if I was on death row and they asked me about a last meal - no doubt that would be my pick

I grew up on it too. My Stepfather was from Talladega and he would bring Sorghum Syrup (Molasses) home whenever it was fresh cooked. Every once in a while I watch YouTube videos of the meals we don't eat anymore. My earlier post about the White Remoulade, the same thing. Rich Coffee, Sorghum Syrup, a buttered Buttermilk Biscuit............That's Living to Me! Great post, foods & smells can take you back faster than anything else.

I remember eating it with Karo too, and when biscuits weren’t handy, just over loaf breadOriginally Posted by SuperDave[emoji639

Oh! And a big glass of whole milk poured from a glass gallon jug in the fridge, fresh from the cow

We had this a lot growing up. Like Dave we also used Karo because we couldn’t afford Maple Syrup. We could not afford snacks either so Mom roasted soybeans in the oven with a little salt and that was a snack for us.

Steens cane syrup or home made cane syrup for me. We lived next to cane fields for 20 years. I do like a good real maple syrup also. Go to the Michigan camp and you might get a quart of real home made. Best I ever tasted.
