That’s the way I catch the red ear and bluegill in my local lake, either drop shot or split shot.
Aberdeen hook, lately they have been 16-18 ft.
if I fish shallow its only smaller fish. It is very clear water.
i start in early spring in 25-30 ft

I use the drop shot method for the majority of my bream/panfish after they come off of the beds, and some even while they are on the beds. Depth ranges from a couple feet, down to 20-30 feet in some instances. Most of the ones caught in my forum post here were caught with the drop shot method.

I’m no expert, but what I look for are points with a gravel or a sandy surface with weeds, shell beds if you have them. I have the quagga mussels from the Colorado river aqueduct in system .

Do you use pre rigged hooks like VMC Spin shot or tie your own?
What baits do use the most? Any tips much appreciated.

I do sometimes when I'm really struggling. I still prefer the thrill of watching a bobber go down or casting and reeling a jig to the drop shot, but for results nothing can beat it. I use the same hooks I use for float fishing and tie them on using a palomar knot with a long tag, which I just crimp a large split shot to the end.

I tie my own knot . Learn on u-tube . I prefer the one that is not a palmar . Red worms are hard to beat (only worm on the bend in the hook ). plastics work also , like "sliders "or any small grub but just nose hook .
