Yep, perfectly calm tonight on the water and some how my twister tail ended up about 20 feet up in a tree.... How the heck does that happen?

So, I have tried a ton of different twister tails.

The Mister Twister 1" need speed or have to be run against river current. Duds in my book.

The Mister Twister 2" are better than the 1" but still don't spin at slow speed. Duds in my book.

Note, Mister Twister 3" work perfect, just the 1" and 2" need speed to spin.

The 2" Southern Pro Hot Grubs work perfectly and spin at slow retrieves or on the fall. These are keepers.

The 2" Southern Pro Triple Tip Grubs work perfectly and spin at slow retrieves or on the fall. These are keepers.

The Creek Life Lure 1" grubs are definitely better than the Mister Twister 1", but still are hit or miss at slow speeds. These are going in the dud pile.

The 1.5" Strike King Mr. Crappie, Crappie Cutters are awesome. These have a soft tail with a small ball on the end of the tail. If you breathe on the tail it will spin! These are keepers.

The Euro Tackle 1.2" grub is awesome. These have a unique tail with a tab on them. If look at the the tail and concentrate, it will spin! These really impressed me. These are a keeper for sure!

Kalin's 2" Triple Threat Grub worked perfect. The tail spins at slow retrieves or even on the fall. This grub is longer than the Southern Pro 2" Grub. These are keepers, but I prefer the Southern Pro Grubs because they are smaller.

The Action Plastics 1.5" Curl Tail Grub is a joke. The grub show in the picture is NOTHING like what you get. The picture shows a pretty unique grub, what you get is disappointment. You get a small normal grub that looks just like a Mister Twister that works as bad as the small Mister Twisters. What Action Plastics is doing is called false advertising. Show one thing, ship something totally different. There stuff found a home in my garbage can.

Today on the river, the Euro Tackle 1.2" grub and the Southern Pro 2" Hot Grub got all the action. Both did extremely well, but the Southern Pro caught just about everything that swam. Both of these get a spot in the tackle bag next to the Charlie Brewer 1" Sliders. The Southern Pro was white with a chartreuse tail and this thing hammered the fish! Best part is they are inexpensive.

Anyone try Berkley Powerbait Ribbon Tails or Yum Ribbon tail grubs? The tails flap at the slowest speed most likely because
the part that attaches tail to the body is thin, the sickle is wide but comes to a sharp point.

I also use them on Beetle Spins

and sometime dip the body in hot plastic to fatten it up:

(The 2" one on the right is from a mold.)

Man do those little sucka's catch fish at the slowest retrieve - even trolling!

I'm laughing reading this, because that is exactly what I just ordered. I ordered all four colors of the Powerbait Ribbon Tails! Exactly what you have said, the smaller ones that don't spin well have a wide attachment point of the tail to the grub body.

Basspro has 1" grubs. Trim the tail right after the body to make the tail wiggle at a slower speed.

Boil them to soften. About 2 minutes then cool flat on a plate. You can also thin up the tails with fine scissors or an exacto knife

Not to downplay curl tails, but for the best tail action at the slowest retrieve is this less-than-2" swimbait.

Another suggestion regarding trolling swimbaits is the Sassy Shad.

To get a nice pulsating wag, I cut off some of the belly to give the lure a thinner profile.

If fish are really finicky, I shorten the body by cutting a bit off the front. 1/32 jigs with a #6* hook have been a good match - especially in 2 FOW. Recently I caught over 2 doz. panfish in that scenario. Fish, for some reason, have also been suspended over shallow water flats, and casting around the boat has produced numbers.
*BTW IMHO there is never a reason to go smaller than a #8 hook, but even the smallest fish can be hooked on a #6 or larger hook.

I'm not big on trolling lures, but if trolling curl tails is how you like to catch fish, adding one to a Beetle Spin enhances the flapping curl-tail with extra vibration. I also use it with thin 2 3/4" plastic finesse worms. INCREDIBLE ACTION and just one of many fish-strike triggers. Fish slam b.spin soft-plastic lures of all kinds!

I use the paddle tail baits as well. Love the smaller Keitech baits in 2-3", down side with them are durability and cost. Usually 1-2 fish and baits are ripped up.
