So keep in mind you want to limit the amount of hardware between your jighead and the float. I can't off the top of my head tell you which number weighted float say from BPS to order but I can tell you a 1/16oz head combined with a weighted float I think I use size 5's on the floats cast a very long way with 4 pound test. You do not need heavy line out in open water. Your bobber stops need to be sized to your line.

I'm probably not the best person to be giving advice but I think natural colors are good for clear and stained water since bait fish are obviously natural looking, that's how I look at it anyway. Going to a bigger bait would help them see your bait easier and add more vibration. I am a fan of flecks in my jigs to add a little shine/sparkle to get attention. I'm still playing around with my go to setups for different situations so my mind could change tomorrow lol. Best advice I can give is do research and experiment and then figure out what works best for you and gives you confidence. Good luck and have fun!!

Crappie are not always on cover , as stated drop offs along channels and steep banks with deep water close to the bank often have them roaming the edges
One thing for certain, if you’re on the bank , it’s highly variable as to the when where and how
Not knowing your water body puts me at a disadvantage to help ….
Crappie have a wide range of depths they might hang around in and various behaviors that change with what is on the menu currently from what I’ve experienced
