Good job. Sorry about your knuckle.

I fished one of my quick trips today while the better half was having her hair visit .
The wind was blowing crazy , 12-20mph was what the weather app said . Seemed more like 20+ .
I fished off a railed dock with the wind from my right facing the bank and a.
Most of my casts were to my left and I would work my jig back into the wind .
Caught what I thought was a lull in the wind and tried a little flip cast toward the bank and a gust blew my jig into a stump .
Limited in time and using Ande 2# line , I wrapped the line around my hand and pulled, thinking it would break easily. The jig came loose and rocketed back toward me.
The jig hit the knuckle on my little finger on my left hand . More accurately, the 4mm tungsten bead hit my knuckle , the size 14 hook imbedded in the inside of my ring finger past the barb . Thank goodness the hook has a micro barb and I was able to pull it out .
The tungsten bead hit hard enough to break the skin on the knuckle and bled more than the hook point wound . I wonder if lead would have hit as hard ?
I ended up catching four small gills and a small redbreast.
I’m afraid The knuckle is going bother me for a few days . It’s starting to bruise .
It’s the wind’s fault ! LOL ! Who said fishing wasn’t a contact sport ! LOL!

Accuracy counts. Glad it wasn’t worse. Good that you got a few fish for your trouble.

Knuckle is swollen and turned a little darker .
Hard to believe that tiny jig did this much damage. Like getting shot with a pellet gun .
And this is why I wear my sunglasses even when it’s cloudy .

Knuckles are pretty solid and not as much padding on them. I’ve heard of tungsten jigs cracking guys screens on their electronics. Hopefully it heals quickly.

The good part is you got your jig back. Been drilled by jigs or weights at least a few times over the years and worse part is I saw it coming and couldn't do anything about it since it happens so fast. Even the little stuff hurts when it happens. When I snag up I pull low just in case to keep it away from my face.

I have to say this and don’t mean to hijack the thread. We all admit that these jigs travel fast, maybe faster than we can react. I want y’all to train yourself to do something when this happens. It’s simple. Whether you can move out of the way or not, close your eyes. My dad was bass fishing with a friend back in ‘72 or so and had a plastic worm and bullet weight come free and bee lined right at him. It hit his glasses and they shattered, putting tiny shards of glass throughout his eye. He knew he had to not move and kept his eyes closed. The story gets longer but with care on both his part and the friends he got to the ER and an optical surgeon and he got it all removed with minimum damage. His guardian angel was on his shoulder that day. Y’all please listen to me and be careful.

Three things contributed to my knuckle getting smacked .
One , I did put up my hand to block the jig .
Two , I was fishing from an elevated dock that has 4’ high rails , so I couldn’t pull any lower than I did .
Three , I was fishing with 2# Ande Tournament line that breaks at 1.75# according to my trigger scale I use for setting the target triggers on my rimfire target rifles.
The line should have broken easily before it shot back at me . I guess the line has a lot more stretch than I thought and worked like a rubber band to shoot that jig like that .
Stuff Happens!
