Thread: What do y’all think of the B ‘n’ M Sam Heaton rod?

I love my Sam Heston Super sensitive for casting ... I’ve had it over 20 years ...

Heck ... I’ve even used it for dock shooting. A little long for that but can be done ...

Another thing I like about this rod is if it’s windy, I can use the “dock shooting” technique to cast without creating that big bow in the line from the wind overhand casting ...

I have the Sam Heaton Signature Series 7' rod and it's as lite action as I want in a seven foot rod. There are no specs printed on the blank, so I have no idea what the actual "action" is on this rod. But I do know that it casts great, feels light in hand, and has caught a good number of fish over the years.
I'm not sure there were any "changes" to it, when it became the "Super Sensitive" model, other than the color of the blank and the split handle. And if that's the case, I think you'll enjoy fishing with your rod. Just get a reel that balances well with that rod and rip some lip !! Luck2ya, Rooster !!

I put a Daiwa Fuego 2500 on it just playing around. That’s a bass reel but it weighs 7.4 oz. Loaded up with 10 pound line it weighs about 7.75 oz.. The reel balanced the rod but it didn’t have that magical feeling I look for. I removed its handle to lighten it up, which is about 5/8 oz., and suddenly the rod felt great. So a 7.125 oz. (7-1/8) reel (with line) is what I’m looking for. The Okuma Ceymar A is 7.2 oz. before adding line. Not exact but will still be lighter than the Daiwa is, and the quantity of 4 pound line I’m planning to use will be a lot less than the 10 pound that’s on that Daiwa, so I think it might work out to be a great feeling combo. I ordered the Okuma reel. I’ll try it on there and see how it feels. If I don’t love it there is another model, an Okuma Ceymar C-20 that weighs just 6.8 oz. and with line I’m guessing about 7-1/8 oz on the dot. It has an EVA foam knob handle though that I’m not crazy about. I’ll try the Ceymar A first and go from there.

Would love to hear a follow-up when you get the reel in. I purchased the Heaton SS a few weeks back and like it a lot. I have a terrible Mr. Crappie reel on it currently because that's just what I had lying around. Been doing research and trying to find a good reel for it under $100. Having trouble deciding on the type and size of reel altogether.

I've been using spinning reels for 60 years. I remember when the best spinning reel you could buy was a Penn. It was high priced at $18.00
That was a lot for a boy mowing lawns for spending money to buy tackle. I was sure proud of it. Now days you don't expect to get high quality at a budget price. I've had all kinds of spinning reels. This one of the finest reels I've ever had in my hands. It's beautiful.
All stainless. It works perfectly. What got my attention was the drag 33#. That is a high quality spec. I won't name names but this reel is better than reels costing 3 times more. Give it a try. I it's not excellent return it free

I put 6# crappie Maxx hi-vis camo line on it it cast like a dream. I have it on a 7' sam heatin super sensitive. Its a pleasure to fish with . NO PLASTIC! Finest rod and reel I've ever had in my hands.

I will let you know how the reel feels on this rod. Should have it by Tuesday. I have Crappie Maxx 4 pound line so that’s what it will be getting.

You should get you a 1000 series of them red reels I use off Amazon ,they will blow most of them others right out of the water , those okuma reels are junk my friend, killed several quickly myself
It might not have a name you can recognize, but right quick like you will be aware of its quality,just saying ….under 20 greenbacks and quite easily over 100 with some “name” on it folks recognize
