    Default Sunday Trip

As I mentioned in a previous post, the Atchafalaya River is still so high, there aren’t many places to fish at all near where I live at this time, so I made about a 20 minute drive to a small lake that I go to pretty often.

I’ve had success there on occasion fishing around, or more specifically, fishing under the roof or flooring of duck blinds that people have built in that lake for duck season.

I was able to find some fish under the blinds like usual, but for the first time since I have been going there, I was able to find some fish suspended about 15-20 feet away from the blinds, and most were only about 1-2’ under the surface of the water, which was different from any other time I’ve gone there.

I caught some on live minnows under a slip bobber and some swimming a small 1/64 ounce nickel jig head with a blue and white triple tail jig on it.

It can be a pretty challenging way to fish at times because for some of the blinds, I have to literally lie on the front deck of my boat, put my seat down on the floor, and pull my boat through the camouflaged opening of the boat bay of the blind to get to the fish. Some of the openings of the boat bays are extremely difficult to cast through, also.

One of the pictures I attached is one of the blinds that I pulled into and had to sit on my front deck flooring to fish because the ceiling is so low. In those places, I use a 5’5” ACC Crappie Stix, so I can raise the rod tip at least a little bit to get them close to the boat.

Also caught a few giant bluegill on that same small jig, swimming it over at tree limb. Definitely a blast on my 7’ Sam Heaton Super Sensitive rod.

Pretty hard fishing at times, but it sure was enjoyable.

Maybe that's why there're call duck blinds because you have to duck to catch fish? Nice Work.
