Good job. Nice bass. Makes a fella feel good knowing people watching and your catching.

Ran down to the docks this morning for a quick hour to see what was happening.
When I got there I was shocked to have the place to myself .
That didn’t last , within fifteen minutes three different groups of fishers and a sun bather showed up.
I only took a single rod , a 5’2” SeaSir and Soare XR500 combo with 2# Ande .
Starting at the boat ramp , I was on the dock casting back toward the shallow water on the ramp and bam ! I got a bite , and the little SeaSir was bending to the handle and the Soare’s drag was peeling off line .
I worked myself back off the dock to the ramp hoping to keep the fish from going under the docks .
It took a few minutes working it back and forth across the ramp area to where I was finally able to beach a nice UL largemouth on the ramp and put my thumb in his mouth .
A good start !
I worked the right side of the docks between the dock and bank . It took a few minutes to realize the little gills were right on the bank . Probably trying to stay safe from the bedding bass I saw in the deeper sections .
I tried both my silicone leg jigs and the rabbit fur Tungsten jigs and the rabbit fur micros produced.
Ended up with eleven small gills and the one bass .
I was approached and asked twice what kind of “bait” I was using , as none of the others were having any luck .
I tried to explain how I had a system that worked for me including tackle and my jigs , but I don’t think they’ll be rushing out buying UL equipment.
Had to get out and scratch that itch .

When others are around and watching, I try to hid my catches , but being out on the open docks , it’s hard to do .
Everybody always thinks I’m using some kind of bait , worms or crickets and are surprised to see , not only am I using artificial lures , but how tiny they are .
I happy to see some gills moving into the area around the docks after the cormorants decimated everything around the docks a few weeks ago .
I bet there were a hundred or more cormorants that I flushed out of the area on a cloudy , windy day , just a few weeks ago .
They flew about a hundred yards out and I’m sure they returned to the area after I left . Hate those birds .

Good lookin bass for sure. No doubt it gave up a good fight. Glad you got out and found some. Things go right, I’ll get out soon. I like reading of your quick trips.

Those gills are about perfect size for a meal for that bass, nice catch on the ultralight. Lot more fun with ultralight than heavier gear that most people use.

The harder the gills fight the crazier the bass get. You might be out gunned with the ultralight gear but it's still fun to try and you might get lucky and land a giant.

I was lucky I was near the boat ramp with the one I caught that day .
Last week I lost two that went between posts . Dock posts and 2# line don’t mix .![]()
I f I can fight battle them in the open water , I’ve got a good chance of landing them , but not that close to the posts .
I had one gill get grabbed that day , but it let go , and two others I hurried the gill in to keep them away from the bass . Those docks are holding some bass right now .

That bass is a very good size and bigger than your UL gear but I am sure you had your drag loose for such a catch! When you can land them they give one such a good feeling of accomplishment like no other! Good job and sure you had fun doing so.
