My opinion only. Like I tell family, grandkids and friends. The gear you use depends on how much you’re planning on fishing to hold up to the abuse. And it depends on how well you’re planning on keeping it up.
If you’re only going fishing on average of once per month don’t spend the money. Get as cheap as you can find. It doesn’t take a lot of money to catch pan fish.
But if you’re like me I may fish one to three or more times a week.
So I have friends that use the lower end Zebco reels and do just fine. But they are some higher ended reels that honestly that can’t take the abuse that the Zebco can.
I use H&H reels. I generally clean them up once per year. They are very durable and can take the abuse and have a great drag that will last forever. Rather catching three pound crappie or thirty pound gar.
Rods I have from ten dollar rods to over one hundred dollar rods. That turns into what situation I am trying to adapt too. Meaning do I need a little stiffer rod fishing in tight brushy areas, or less stiff rod to shoot docks to single lining fishing for light bites.
Bottom line personal preference and budget. Heck when I was in my twenties with young kids all I could afford was the fifteen dollar B&M bream buster, I caught my limit back then too.

Budget reels I dip/spider rig with - Daiwa D-Spin 500 or 1000 - $15. They do sell out from time to time but Grizzly Jig typically has them. They arent great reels, but for $15 they hold line and work well enough for their price.

No ignorance detected. Awhile back we had a discussion about what names we ascribed to different methods, and we found out that several methods had a couple of different names they were being called by. Methods such as "tightlining" came out with more than one definition.
And as far as Spider Rigging ... one can momentarily sit stationary over a brush pile & still be Spider Rigging, but if they're anchored or tied off to something, then they're actually (what I call) "still fishing" or "tightline fishing".
I was just curious as to whether you had a different method in mind that I wasn't aware of or ascribed a different name to it ... that's all. You'll have to excuse my slight OCD about "definitions", as it was a crucial part of my jobs as a medical supply technician & then a Pharmacy Technician over the 45yrs of my work career.

When spider rigging, I’ll sometimes slow way down or even hold onto a brush pile for a bit if they are holding tight and not chasing. However, the concept of spider rigging is covering a lot of water to find bites.
If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.

I call it trolling. 6 rods out front and 6 out back with 2 persons. The boat looks like a spider with legs stretched out is why it's called spider rigging.
I got a lot of Johnson Century 100, 100A and B models from ebay for not over $10 back when I started. Reels hang on bottom of rod with left hand retrieve. After depth is set the reel isn't touched until time to head home. The 100B Deluxe reels are right hand retrieve only.
Look for auction houses in your area that sells mostly new items. Look for ones that hold dealer's sales for better prices. I've bought spinning reels as low as $5 by the carton of 4. The auction house I use is in Senatobia, MS, on zoom so I don't have to stay out late or be in a crowd until time to pick up my items.

I use the drop seat fly reel on all my spidder rigging rods, inexpensive and don't need much line, mr. crappie and southern crappie rod reels, that's all you need.
