    Default Entertainment at it's best

Has been said to me on a few occasions , when I used to hit public spots often back when, more than a few times folks would just sit down and watch me .
Sometimes it would bother me a bit and other times I knew what was up , I am that guy that tunes out the world quickly when my jig hits the water , it becomes me against the fish immediately .
Yesterday was a no witness day though and I was glad , walked up dropped my jig ,,,,KABOOM fish on , up to the surface and then gone .....danget right ....
second drop ....KABOOM fish on and its BIG and we fight a good bit and as it nears the end ....GONE AGAIN ? .....
man I am in the wth mode , lost 2 in row ....not good ....1 every other trip is my average .....
dropped it yet again and the scenario repeats itself on another nice fish ? .....
Well to say the least I feel somewhat defeated and like a beginner and question why or how I could have lost 3 in a row ....
I check my jig ,all seems good , drop it down and ....KABOOM another nice one on and then....
    GONE !
look at my jig again with no glasses and my old eyes and it seems good to go ???
dropped it again and fish number 5 inhales it to it's gills and we go at it a bit and it goes in the air and as it passes I see the jig down it's throat and think there ya go .....and at that very second in time ....
OFF comes fish number 5 and lands at my feet on the dock .....
I am totally baffled and take a picture of the fish and think something just ain't right ....
better check that jig one more time and make sure it ain't my jig ......
so I zoom in on it with my phone camera to see it better and there ya go ....
    DUH !
now mind ya this , some folks said well them sickle hooks are trash and I said really ? that hook was good for at least 300 slabs in the last few days , do most hooks last well past 300 plus fish is now my question ...the life expectancy on a crappie jig hook point is ? what ?
p.s. regular old cheap nail polish will take a beating and stay on a jighead a long time ,if you keep it off the rocks and roof of the dock ....

I've heard of "barbless" hooks, but "pointless" hooks are a new one on me.

I’ve had that same thing happen to me but I noticed the problem after first one got off. It was a pretty hand tied jig I tied and it’s now on my desk at work with my others that are no longer fishable but pretty jigs. Office decor

I’m gonna have to get those too I’m afraid. Several times last trip I went to tie on a jig, thread the line through the eye and start to tie the knot, then plink the jig is on the floor. Just THOUGHT it was through the eye.

I like the sickle hooks and you got your money's worth out of that one. Hopefully you retired it and didn't put it back in the tackle bag.

Hey my friend I still have a few in my tackle box but for the most part they are I guess for declarations and loners for fishing partners that are too cheap to keep their tackle stocked.
Here’s my two cents on sickle hooks. If you fish a lot of open water without a lot of structure man they are the greatest. But if you’re hooking structure from time to time and bending the hook back in shape, you are setting yourself up for what just happened. I also found that issue if you fish it in brackish water much. They will slightly rust and break in the bend as well. So while I like a sickle hooks as with any tool to catch those crappie devils. They have their place. The regular old wire hook you and grew up with is the best all around hook and I am sure some want agree. But proof is in the pudding! Or should I say the hook. Tight line and good hooks.

it is rare for me to bend a hook on cover and if I do , most of the time I just tie on a new one
nothing will quit quicker on a big crappie than a soft ,lost its temper "I fixed" the bent hook ....
    just saying
folks say they fix their bent out hooks often and use braid to rip them out of the brush , I say this about that ....
not the best way to ketch lots for sure
