Default We should have fished nearby

I met up with my fishing buddy at our usual big reservoir today around noon .
The weatherman, again missed the wind prediction by about 15-20mph.
I don’t know what’s up with the wind the past few years it seems like .
I know it’s March , but one or two calm days a month isn’t a lot to ask for .

I was somewhat ready , armed with spoons , and spinners as well as an assortment of jigs .

Five of my thirteen fish were caught during the first twenty minutes after we arrived . The area we fished was below the highway that acted as a windbreak.
Nothing big was caught today by either of us .
I caught green sunfish , small bluegills and a couple small spotted bass.
Caught one of the bass on a spoon , the other on a micro spinner .
If I had concentrated on catching green sunfish my count would have been higher , but I was searching for gills and shellcrackers.
My buddy only caught three fish in the four hours we spent searching, fishing three different areas .
I think I could have have done better fishing the docks up the road from the house .
Always good to enjoy some gillchasing with my buddy .
The gills should be on the banks by now , also the crappie .

Better than where I spent my day. I’ll never get tired of the colors on the green sunfish. Pretty bright lines on their heads. Hope the weather cooperates for me one day soon.

Just getting out and fishing and catching some is a great day. I'm with you on the wind and weather conditions as they certainly make it more challenging. Very windy all week here and temps are all over. Tuesday was 84 and right now it's 34 with a wind chill of 21. Just can't catch a break.

Today’s high was at midnight and was 66 , it’s 47 now at 9:30am and it going down to 33 tonight and of course it’s windy .
I wanted to hit the docks this afternoon, but I might just work on some reels . I’ve got some bearings coming today that are to replace some bushings in a few reel handle knobs .

Gillchaser999, I know exactly what your saying. Yesterday started out at 54* at 0100AM and by 6pm was 32* here. Winds were avg 25 with gusts to 40. Big Oak tree next to our mobile home spitting out old dead branches. having to pick up the neighbors trash along my fence for the pups...Guess the saying still stands. March in Like a Lion, out like a Lamb and in like a Lamb, out like a Lion...
Wind here's been from the Northwest, and I could have sworn Omaha went by an hour ago...Just sayin'

I was just saying , I think we’d done better at the smaller reservoirs close by than traveling an hour away and not doing as well as we had expected.
The bigger reservoir is behind the smaller waters and according to my records behind what it’s produced in the past .
We’re planning on going back this Tuesday to try again.
Sooner or later the bite will pick up .

I feel you on the wind. It's hard casting light lures when it's an unrelenting 12-15mph winds with heavier gusts, and especially so being a novice.

Since I'm confined to the bank until the water warms enough to safely be out on the kayak, I keep trying small, sheltered coves on the local big reservoir. None of those new spots have worked out, however, so I keep finding myself back and the usual haunt, which unfortunately face directly into the predominate winds.
