Even though I hardly ever use scents and don't even own a nibble..........If you've ever sight fished for bass or crappie you know they can spit it out way faster than you can even imagine. I've set the hook so many times just to have the jig fly right over my head! Once you get a feel for it, it's almost like a rhythm and you set the hook as soon as you see their gills flair. The site fishing I did the fish really didn't even bite it they just suck it in - then spit if out. It's FAST!
Not sure if you are fishing tide controlled waters, but Slab Sauce works well when they are finicky there. I have noticed the more north I go on these type rivers where the tide doesn’t effect them as much, thump gel works best rather than the slab sauce. But I only use scent when they are finicky.
