I stole a saying from a knowledgeable catfisherman, I'll try anything even if it don't work, as long as it don't hurt

Sorry if I muddied the waters with all of the post.

I rarely fish a jig without a nibble, back in the spider rigging days I've seen this out fish minnows. I fish Florida every winter and always looking for shrimp patterns and figure the scent would add to success.

I personally don't think scents draw crappie bites but I do think crappie will hold on to a jig a bit longer if it has scent on it. This is big considering a crappie and spit a bait within 2 seconds.

I mix Berkley gulp shrimp scent, slab sauce & bang crawfish shad scent in the bottles that i use for soft plastic salmon eggs i use as nibbles & they work great & smell a lot like the powerbait scent on power worms.

I’ve used slab sauce but I like it best in an open top container that I can dunk and cast from. I use procure shrimp gel in salt water with good success. I believe scent has a place but there isn’t a magic bullet that I’ve found. What makes a difference trolling here is spike it dye with scent. I dip the tip of the tails in chartreuse with garlic scent and that bait generates more hits than the one that’s just dyed from the last trip. A bit of a scent trail seems to improve the bite for me.

I use braid straight to the jig. I use Black Garlic scented Spike-It to dye the last 6’ or so. My present thought is the black colored line may be more camouflaged. All Spike-It dyes work extremely well. Also maybe the scented and dyed light attracts the fish. Haven’t done this for long, so not sure how effective it is. BUT confidence when fishing is a fisherman’s best asset.

Good tip, SkeetBum. I’ll start dying more frequently… love their chartreuse on tails on clear and white.

They can inhale and spit a lure in the blink of an eye, and if your retrieving a lure it will leave scent trail in the water.

Scent is VERY important to those critters that are not sold on a food item across the board.
If you just randomly pitch jigs to and fro like me ,then you for sure know this is a fact .
Regular ole glo white Berkeley gulp brand crappie nibbles smell highly of shrimp .
In The spots I frequent , if you are not packing nibbles when you get there, you will be sad more often than not when you depart for wherever you go when you quit “fishing “ ……
