Default 5th wheel update, getting ready to cut it in half!!!

    Check it out.

Yep, I be crazy. Cutting a fifth wheel in half. Making a stubby camper and a trailer. Two for one! It's a 40 foot 2022 cougar 5th wheel. Had a fire in the wiring for the solar panels, the guy I bought it from put a brand new roof on it, and gave up repairing it. I bought it like an idiot, not realizing what a CoD was, and now this is what I got. But it has been fun tearing it apart. At least I'll get a car hauler out of it! And maybe a stubby camper. we will see what happens...

I just now added music to the "no sound" time lapse portion of the video in the beginning so it would not be so boring. Fun project with my FIL though I gotta say.

I'm watching the video now. What a shame you had to remove the new roof, I still have to install one on my camper. The plywood road was good too.

It's been a fun project for FIL and I. We go back and forth working on what's gonna be "Stubby Camper", and the "Sprint" boat project. We may be joining cap and hull on the "Sprint" before too long.

I'm actually thinking of something really different for "Stubby". What if I cut the fifth wheel hitch off, and make a regular style trailer hitch mount out of it (bumper level). That might make it "more better" to re-title the camper as a "home made" camper as the vin number on the 5th wheel trailer hitch would be cut off. And I feel it'll make the whole rig lighter as I would not have to have a heavy 5th wheel hitch in the bed of the truck. This type rig should even be 1/2 ton towable. I'm pulling most everything out of the camper, and there won't be a stove or even a standard kitchen. It'll only be 110 volt stuff, and sink, and microwave oven. That's all we really need. Oh, 110 volt college dorm style fridge as well, need that too! But that's all. It'll be light, I'm thinking 4-5 thousand pounds max.

If going that route a portable Induction Eye or 2 would make fixin' breakfast real easy. I have one for traveling with my Tamale pot to cook on site. Bumper pull idea is the way I would go I like the lower overall profile of bumper pull equipment.

Great idea for sure. The thing is, we don't really even do breakfast. I eat a bowl of cereal about 11AM, and that's it. That's my lunch/breakfast, special k fruit and yogurt. Wifey blends up a protein drink, and eats fruit for breakfast. Actually, I've never regularly eaten breakfast growing up. Not that I never do, but it's not my normal practice. When I'm travelling I'll eat breakfast, particularly when with Billbob cause he needs it to take his meds. And yep, good to hear you like the bumper level pull too. Heck with that frame flex on the 5th wheel. It'll be a fun project.

It would make it more towing options friendly no?

    Sure would.

I just cut the back off. The front with what camper is left looks really cute. I'll get pics poste4d soon. I'm so tired right now, my FIL just does not stop. I can't keep up with a man 20 years older than I, to the day!
