I've only had boiled peanuts once. Very different from roasted we normally get. I bet cajun flavor is good. I know you can but do YOU eat the shells?
Thanks: 0
I love boiled Cajun peanuts and decided to cook up some myself. There is a few steps to get to tender, spicy, boiled peanuts and the longest part was the cooking. 12 hours of boiling is best done outside due to the crab boil in the mix.
The "Raw" peanuts are the dried peanuts sold in bags like this. Green peanuts do not need the overnight soaking and are only available during harvest times.

First step is to wash the peanuts well, they still have dirt on them.
After place the peanuts in a pot that is tall enough to hold all the peanuts and enough water to cover.
Once the pot is loaded up put plates on top of the peanuts to hold them all under water.
It takes a lot of salt, I put 10 ounces of pickling salt to this batch.
The total amount of Tony's added was a cup, it takes a lot of seasonings to Cajun boil the peanuts.
I added 8 ounces of liquid Crab Boil total.
These peanuts were boiled for 12 hours then soaked in the hot water overnight. Stored in the saltwater in the refrigerator you can pull out the amount you want to eat and have them hot or cold, the microwave warms them up nicely.

No I do not. I open the shells up and suck out the peanuts with the juices. I get the juices running down my arms while eating. While wrapping the pipes here day before yesterday I snipped a hole in my palm with a pair of industrial scissors. I super glued the cut tissue back together but have to wear nitrile glove on that hand to eat goober peas now. Can't get any of that juice in the deep cut. These peanuts are fantastic with cold beer.

Plumbing works just fine, I understand green peanuts can be frozen for boiling later. Nobody grows peanuts here. We may need your uncle's phone number.
All seriousness, I would buy a dedicated chest freezer if I could buy several bushels of green peanuts somewhere. This will be a peanut harvest time mission in 2025. They grew peanuts behind my uncle's house between Dothan & Brundidge, the electric fence around the peanut field was 2 wires very low to the ground. My introduction to a electric fence was when my foot went between the two wires tripping me, locking the wires over my foot and behind my heel shocking me with pulses. It was tough grabbing those wires to untangle my foot.

The two foods I miss the most are Boiled Peanuts (fresh) and Blue Crab cakes.
Caught lots of Blue Crab in Pensacola.
For Peanuts, that was Live Oak to Jax, and Georgia. Sidewalk vendors. late 60's.
... Texas (North) knows nothing about real BBQ... Kentucky (pork) BBQ is the real deal.
And Gulf Blue Crab. Maybe Coastal TX does Blue Crab.
The only remaining agree to disagree, is the Beer
I am hankering for those peanuts now!
Nooooooooo!!!
