Good thoughts on spool and guide size. I have some rods that have a stripper guide that’s dime size. One would think that it wouldn’t perform but the opposite is the case. The braid I use does well on those rods. Now when mono enters the foray it’s different. Larger stripper guides are the rule and the suppleness of the line enters the picture too. The Varivas lines are doing better than my favored Stren crappie hi vis I like so much. I’ve also found that leaving almost a couple of feet of line from the tip and using the sling effect to get more distance works best whether braid or mono. Once practiced, accuracy is still good, unlike my results with this when I bass fished with BC reels. Another note before I close is on guide construction. Stainless guides and insert ring guides are so close in distance that I wouldn’t turn away from stainless on the right rod. The insert ring guides are frequently heavier and a very light blank changes with the excess weight. I’m also not including super light guides like Torzite inserts from lack of experience. I don’t pay the money for a set of guides that cost more than the blank. I’ll go to work and stop rambling and I hope it warms some and y’all get a chance to get out today.
